Hi! I'm Carrie! I'm a creative writer, editor, and educator based in Norfolk, Virginia who's dedicated to helping writers tell better stories.

My love for storytelling first led me to get my BFA in Creative Writing, and I wrote my Master’s thesis analyzing how stories shape women’s—especially young women’s—understanding of and expectations in sexual and romantic relationships.

For most of the last decade, I wrote screenplays. I loved the economy of language and attention to detail the genre demands. I didn’t love the reality of the industry, so I pivoted to short, creative non-fiction. I know these formats seem drastically different, but my focus is the same: every word matters, every detail counts, and meaning is packed into a very tight space.

As an editor, I've worked with hundreds of writers on novels, screenplays, and other creative projects. I believe every small choice a writer makes affects the whole story, and my job is to help them see how. I'm driven to help writers understand how their creative choices make their story do what they want it to.

As an educator, I've taught English in Seville, Spain (you may know this as Dorne if you watched Game of Thrones) and was the coordinator of professional and creative writing at SCAD for nearly 10 years. I  now work in instructional design and with a local writing center in my community where I teach classes and host other creative writing events.

Outside of writing, I’m a dedicated dog mom who spends as much time with my rescue pup Rudy as possible. He's my baby, my best friend, and quite possibly the love of my life. His interests include chasing sticks, eating cheese, and being a very good boy.
