Overview

My approach as an editor combines developmental and line editing because I believe stories are inseparable from how they're told. The larger story structure, character moments and plot beats are intrinsically connected to the artistic choices on the page, so my edits include both big-picture structural feedback and sentence-level craft notes at once. I can, of course, focus on one more than the other, just let me know before we get started!

Before I comment, I begin by getting to know your goals for the project, expectations in working together, and biggest concerns about your writing to make sure I understand the story you're trying to tell and what success looks like for you with this piece.

Then, I read closely and comment heavily to help you see what's working, what isn't, and figure out how to fix it. I leave long, detailed notes at natural structural breaks in the story, like at the end of each act or other significant plot points, to check in with you and give you a clear picture of how a reader's engaging with your story. Throughout, I'll also correct minor grammar and formatting issues when I see them.

At the end, I'll write up a separate editorial letter that explains my main assessment of your work, and I'll give you key advice for revisions. After you've received my feedback, we'll touch base after you've reviewed my feedback . . .

Below, you'll find a description of my services and rates, as well as sample feedback that shows the type of comments I leave, an FAQ section that covers common questions, and testimonials from past clients. There's also a list of the creative writing classes I teach if you'd like to join one of those.

I hope what you find here gives you a clear sense of who I am and how I work. If it sounds like what you're looking for, please reach out!

Story Editing

~ Full Developmental & Line Edit ~

My story edits focus on big picture elements like character, plot, structure, and theme. I pay special attention to characterization to make sure actions, motivations, and dialogue are believable. I also look closely at structure and pacing to ensure the plot unfolds in a way that holds a reader's interest, escalates, and feels earned. When needed, I comment on worldbuilding and note whether the logic and rules of your setting are believable, clearly established, and make sense for your story.

Beyond the big picture, I comment on style, voice, and tone because how you tell your story matters as much as the story itself. I'll look at word choice, literary devices, imagery, sentence structure, rhythm and more and note how it adds to your story and affects your readers. My goal with these comments is to help you strengthen your prose so it remains distinctly yours and is appropriate for the genre you're working in.

Before you commit to anything, I want you to know exactly what working with me looks like. Send me your first chapter (up to 2,500 words or the first 10 pages of your screenplay), and I'll send back a sample edit so you can see if working with me is right for you.

What I'll comment on

  • Character believability — whether actions, motivations, and dialogue feel consistent and earned
  • Structure and pacing — how your plot unfolds, escalates, and delivers on its promises
  • Theme and conflict — whether your story's deeper meaning is coming through action on the page
  • Style and voice — the word choices, literary devices, and other  artistic decisions that shape your prose
  • Minor grammar and formatting issues — cleaned up as I go

What you'll receive:

  • Free feedback on first chapter (up to 2,500 words or 10 pages for script)

  • Extensive inline comments throughout your manuscript (delivered in Word using Track Changes for manuscripts and in PDF comments for screenplays)

  • Story check-ins at major plot points and act breaks — real-time reader reactions at key moments

  • A comprehensive editorial letter covering big-picture issues, revision priorities, and specific guidance on how to approach your next draft

  • One revision pass after you've made changes???????
